Mr. Nobody

When I first heard of the movie Mr. Nobody, I wasn't really interested. Even seeing the trailer didn't get me excited.

But when I saw the movie in the shelf of the local video rental, I suddenly decided I MUST see it. I still have no idea why. The cover isn't really that interesting, I keep forgetting what a talented actor Jared Leto actually is and I had never heard of the director Jaco Van Dormael.

Whatever glitch it was in my brain that caused me to hunt for it for weeks (I wasn't the only girl in the village who wanted to see it, I'm pretty sure some of them even wanted to see it for the movie, not just Leto)I'm pretty happy about it. This flick is quickly rising into one of my favorites. It is quirky, smart and beautiful. every time I watch it I find something new in it. This scene (which for some reason can't be embedded, thanks Youtube) doesn't say much about the movie itself but a lot about why I love it.

Also the effects of the movie are incredible. A big part of the movie we are following a very old Leto which has been created completely by using prosthetic make-up effects.Smart move, with digital effects they would have probably completely hidden Leto's wonderful acting, which now can be easily seen under the mask.

Here's an interesting little clip of the making of the prosthetic effects

And the plot? Sorry, you have to see it yourself. This is one of the movies where there are no two interpretations alike. All I'll say is, it is extremely original and yes, very much a sci-fi movie. Or maybe not. Depends on what time and reality you are living in.

There comes a time in life where everything seems narrow. Choices have been made. I can only continue on. I know myself like the back of my hand. I can predict my every reaction. My life has been cast in cement with airbags and seatbelts. I’ve done everything to reach this point and now that I’m here, I’m fucking bored. The hardest thing is knowing whether I’m still alive.
